French Stocks Rebound Before ECB Decision
The CAC 40 rose 0.3% to 8,179 on Thursday, rebounding from a near three-month low in the previous session as investors awaited the European Central Bank's interest rate decision later in the day. While the ECB is widely expected to deliver a 25 bps rate hike, investors remain focused on policymakers' guidance regarding the future path of monetary policy. Risk sentiment also remained fragile as oil prices stayed elevated after Iran signaled its readiness for a more intense conflict, while US President Donald Trump said the war was unlikely to end before the November midterm elections. Among individual stocks, L'Oréal (-0.3%), Dassault Systèmes (-1.1%), and Pernod Ricard (-1.0%) were among the biggest drags on the index. In contrast, TotalEnergies gained 0.6%, reaching its highest level since May, as higher crude prices continued to support energy shares.
