Stocks in France Hit 4-week Low

The CAC 40 fell 0.3% to 8,434 on Thursday, reversing previous session's and slipping to its lowest level in a month as investors turned cautious ahead of Fitch’s review of France’s sovereign credit rating and closely monitored budget negotiations and the country’s evolving political landscape. Attention is focused on Fitch’s assessment due Friday, after the agency downgraded France to A+ last year. Political uncertainty added to the pressure, with presidential candidates set to present their policies to business leaders later today in the first major face-to-face confrontation of the 2027 presidential campaign. Investors remain cautious amid France's increasingly challenging economic backdrop of slowing growth, higher inflation, and rising unemployment. LVMH, L’Oréal, and TotalEnergies each lost around 1%. In contrast, STMicroelectronics surged 3.6%, tracking broader strength in the technology sector after NVIDIA delivered strong Q2 results and upbeat revenue guidance.

The CAC 40 Index is dropping 25 points. Leading the losses are Michelin (-1.54%), Pernod Ricard (-1.33%) and Orange (-1.19%). Top gainers were STMicroelectronics (3.23%), Legrand (1.13%) and Renault (1.12%).
