The CAC 40 shed 0.2% to close at 8,439 on Tuesday following weaker-than-expected consumer confidence data and amid US-Iran tensions.

France’s consumer confidence index remained unchanged at 86 in August, below forecasts of 87 and well below its long-run average of 100, highlighting continued caution among households.

Meanwhile, although Washington’s threat of an “economic D-Day” through tougher sanctions on Iran failed to generate the expected market disruption, with oil prices falling, geopolitical risks persist.

Luxury stocks closed lower, with LVMH down 1.9%, L’Oreal losing 1%, Hermes shedding 1.5% and Kering tumbling 3.3%.

Financials also posted losses, with BNP Paribas down 2.2% and AXA losing 1%.

In contrast, industrial stocks were mostly higher.

Defense-related stocks gained, with Airbus up 0.9% and Safran adding 1.1%.

Tech shares also rose ahead of Nvidia’s earnings report, with Schneider Electric up 1.5% and STMicroelectronics adding 0.8%.
