The CAC 40 Index Closes 0.77% Lower

The CAC 40 Index fell 66 points or 0.77 percent on Tuesday to close at 8514 points. Leading the losses are STMicroelectronics (-7.31%), Schneider Electric (-4.50%) and Legrand (-3.98%). Top gainers were Essilor (2.77%), Dassault Systemes (2.48%) and TotalEnergies SE (1.73%).

The CAC 40 fell 0.8% to close at 8,509 on Tuesday, extending its losing streak to a sixth straight session and hitting a near three-week low as optimism over a Middle East peace deal faded. Oil prices climbed after US President Donald Trump said he was not interested in extending the interim peace deal with Iran. Global bond yields rose as energy-driven inflation concerns persisted. Financials moved lower, with BNP Paribas down 1.6%, Crédit Agricole losing 2% and Société Générale shedding 2.5%. Industrials also posted losses, with Airbus down 2.1% and Safran retreating 2.2%. Technology stocks tumbled, tracking a selloff in US chipmakers. STMicroelectronics sank 7.6% and Schneider Electric fell 4.4%. Meanwhile, the luxury sector rebounded after posting sharp losses the previous day amid slowing Chinese retail sales. L’Oréal added 1.6%, LVMH rose 0.4% and Hermès gained 0.7%. TotalEnergies rose 1.8% on higher oil prices. Other notable performers included Sanofi and EssilorLuxottica.

Among individual stocks, Schneider Electric (-1.2%), Safran (-1.1%), and STMicroelectronics (-3.3%) led the declines. In contrast, TotalEnergies climbed 1.3% to its highest level in more than two months, supported by higher oil prices amid fading hopes for a Middle East peace deal and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
