The CAC 40 Index Closes 0.28% Higher

The CAC 40 Index rose 23 points or 0.28 percent on Tuesday to close at 8363 points. Leading the gains are STMicroelectronics (4.34%), Societe Generale (2.37%) and TotalEnergies SE (2.12%). Top losers were Danone (-2.30%), Eurofins Scientific SE (-2.03%) and Publicis (-1.90%).

The CAC 40 edged up 0.3% to close at 8,363 on Tuesday on hopes of a de-escalation in Middle East tensions after reports emerged that Iran had received a 10-day ceasefire proposal from mediators. The proposal, aimed at reviving the interim agreement reached last month, offered some relief despite the US carrying against Iran and Tehran continuing retaliatory attacks across the region. Financials traded higher on hopes that diplomacy could eventually normalize oil flows and ease energy-driven inflation. BNP Paribas added 1.8%, Crédit Agricole rose 1%, and Société Générale gained 2.7%. Industrials traded mixed, with Schneider Electric up 1.5%. TotalEnergies rose 2.3% as oil prices remained elevated. STMicroelectronics (+4.3%) and Thales (+0.5%) gained ahead of their earnings reports. BNP Paribas and TotalEnergies are also due to report this week. Meanwhile, luxury stocks posted losses as geopolitical risks persisted. LVMH shed 1.7% and Kering lost 1%.

Other notable gainers included TotalEnergies (1.5%), Schneider Electric (1.3%), and Airbus (0.5%). In contrast, luxury giant LVMH fell 0.5%, while EssilorLuxottica and Saint-Gobain lost 1.3% and 1.0%, respectively.
