French Stocks Edge Higher
The CAC 40 edged up 0.1% to around 8,347 on Tuesday, following a steady performance in the previous session as hopes for a temporary de-escalation of Middle East tensions supported sentiment after reports emerged that Iran had received a 10-day ceasefire proposal from mediators. The development, aimed at reviving the interim agreement reached last month, offered some relief despite escalating regional tensions, with the US carrying out a tenth consecutive day of strikes against Iran and Tehran continuing retaliatory attacks across the region. Meanwhile, attention also remained focused on the corporate earnings season. STMicroelectronics advanced 2.4% ahead of its second-quarter 2026 results due later this week, after reporting an earnings miss in the previous quarter. Other notable gainers included TotalEnergies (1.5%), Schneider Electric (1.3%), and Airbus (0.5%). In contrast, luxury giant LVMH fell 0.5%, while EssilorLuxottica and Saint-Gobain lost 1.3% and 1.0%, respectively.
