The CAC 40 edged down 0.2% to close at 8,431 on Wednesday as investors paused after recent gains tied to the US-Iran peace agreement.
The deal is expected to be signed on Friday, paving the way for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to hostilities.
With the Federal Reserve widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged, investors are now focused on the central bank’s signals for the future path of monetary policy.
Luxury stocks led losses, with LVMH down 1.8% and Hermès falling 1.3%.
STMicroelectronics lost 0.8%, trimming earlier gains after announcing a $1.5 billion convertible bond sale.
Financials moved higher as bond yields eased on lower energy-driven inflation concerns, with BNP Paribas up 1.2% and Crédit Agricole adding 1.6%.
Industrial stocks also advanced, led by Schneider Electric, up 2.1%, and Airbus, which gained 0.9%.
