Baltic Dry Index at Near 1-Week High

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, advanced for the second session on Wednesday, rising about 2.4% to a near one-week high of 2,562 points.

Gains were seen across all vessel segments.

The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, surged 4.1% to 3,692 points, marking the second day of increases; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 1.1% to 2,177 points.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index went up by 0.4% to 1,673 points.

Baltic Dry Index Halts 6-Day Decline
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, snapped a six-day losing run on Tuesday, rising about 0.4% to 2,501 points, supported by the larger vessel segments. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, went up 0.3% to 3,548 points, after several days of declines; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, added 1.4% to 2,154 points. On the other hand, the supramax index edged down by 0.1% to 1,667 points. The benchmark index logged a quarterly gain of about 25%, but dropped 22% for the month.

Baltic Dry Index Extends Losing-Run
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was down for the sixth straight session on Monday, falling about 1.4% to its lowest since April 15 at 2,490 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slumped by 2.8% to 3,538 points; and the supramax index edged down by 0.1% to a fresh low since June 15 at 1,668 points. On the other hand, the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 0.7% to 2,124 points.
