The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, snapped a six-day losing run on Tuesday, rising about 0.4% to 2,501 points, supported by the larger vessel segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, went up 0.3% to 3,548 points, after several days of declines; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, added 1.4% to 2,154 points.
On the other hand, the supramax index edged down by 0.1% to 1,667 points.
The benchmark index logged a quarterly gain of about 25%, but dropped 22% for the month.
