Baltic Dry Index Falls Further to Near 2-Week Low

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, declined for a fourth session on Tuesday, dropping about 2.4% to its lowest since March 12 at 1,989 points.

The capesize index, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, was down for a second day, slumping 3.2% to 2,844 points; and the panamax index, which usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell 2.6% to 1,839 points.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index decreased 0.3% to 1,215 points.

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, was down for a third session on Monday, falling 0.9% to a near one-week low of 2,037 points. The capesize index, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, decreased by 1.1% to 2,937 points; and the panamax index, which usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, went down 0.8% to 1,888 points. Among smaller vessels, the supramax index shed 6 points, or 0.5%, to 1,218 points.

Baltic Dry Index Eases, Still Posts Weekly Gain
The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, fell slightly for a second session on Friday, down about 0.1% to 2,056 points. The panamax index, which usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, decreased about 0.3% to 1,904 points; and the supramax index fell by 0.4% to 1,224 points. On the other hand, the capesize index, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, rose by 0.2% to 2,971 points. The benchmark index logged a 1.4% weekly gain.
