Baltic Dry Index Eases, Still Posts Weekly Gain

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, fell slightly for a second session on Friday, down about 0.1% to 2,056 points.

The panamax index, which usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, decreased about 0.3% to 1,904 points; and the supramax index fell by 0.4% to 1,224 points.

On the other hand, the capesize index, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, rose by 0.2% to 2,971 points.

The benchmark index logged a 1.4% weekly gain.

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, fell about 0.3% to 2,057 points on Thursday, after rising roughly 2% in the prior session. The capesize index, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, decreased by 0.7% to 2,965 points; and the supramax index went down 0.9% to 1,229 points. Conversely, the panamax index, which usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose nearly 1% to 1,909 points.

Baltic Dry Index Rises to Over 1-Week High
The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, climbed roughly 2% to its highest since March 9 at 2,064 points on Wednesday, following a modest decrease in the prior day. The capesize index, which typically transport 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, surged 3.4% to 2,986 points; and the panamax index, which usually carry 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 2.1% to 1,891 points. On the other hand, the smaller supramax index decreased by 1.3% to 1,240 points.
