Australia Commodity Prices Rise at Slowest Pace in 6 Months

The Reserve Bank of Australia’s Index of Commodity Prices rose 15.5% year-on-year in September 2026, slowing from an upwardly revised 16.2% increase in August and marking the lowest reading since March.

Gains were broadly based across most commodities, with the exception of iron ore, alumina and copper ore prices.

In Australian dollar terms, the index rose 6.6% from a year earlier.

On a monthly basis, commodity prices increased 1.4% in September in SDR terms, following a downwardly revised 0.3% rise in August.

The rural, non-rural, and base metals subindices all increased during the month.

In Australian dollar terms, the index went up 1.0% month-on-month.

The Reserve Bank of Australia's Index of Commodity Prices rose 15.5% year-on-year in August 2026, easing from an upwardly revised 17.2% gain in the previous month. The advance was driven by higher prices across most commodities, except iron ore and alumina. In Australian dollar terms, the index climbed 5.8% year-on-year in August. On a monthly basis, commodity prices increased 1.2% in August in SDR terms, reversing a 0.5% decline in the preceding month. The non-rural and base metals subindices posted gains, while the rural subindex decreased.

The Reserve Bank of Australia’s Index of Commodity Prices increased 15.4% year-on-year in July 2026, following a downwardly revised 14.6% rise in the previous month. The annual increase was broadly supported by higher prices across rural commodities, bulk commodities, and base metals. On a monthly basis, the index rose 0.6% in July, rebounding from a 2.2% decline in the previous month, as gains in non-rural and rural commodity prices more than offset a decline in base metals.
