Taiwan Jobless Rate Steady in July

Taiwan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was steady at 3.33% in July 2026, as the number of unemployed people remained unchanged at 401 thousand from the previous month. Meanwhile, the number of employed people decreased by 2 thousand to 11.646 million. The labor force participation rate was little changed at 59.59% in July, compared with a four-month high of 59.60% in June. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the jobless rate edged up to 3.39% in July from 3.34% in June, with the number of unemployed individuals rising by 7 thousand to 409 thousand. Youth unemployment among those aged 15–24 increased to 11.71% from 11.57% in the prior month.

The number of unemployed persons increased by 9 thousand month-on-month to 402 thousand, with new job seekers rising to 89 thousand from 84 thousand, while experienced job seekers increased to 313 thousand from 309 thousand. Youth unemployment among those aged 15–24 also rose to 11.57% from 11.14% in May. Meanwhile, the number of employed persons grew by 3 thousand to 11.637 million. The labor force participation rate rose to 59.56% in June from 59.5% in the previous month, marking its highest reading since March. In June 2025, the unemployment rate was slightly higher at 3.35%.

Taiwan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 3.32% in May 2026 from 3.34% in the previous month, marking the lowest reading since November 2000. The total number of unemployed persons decreased by 4 thousand month-on-month to 393 thousand, while employment rose by 2 thousand to 11.634 million. The youth unemployment rate among those aged 15-24 eased to 11.14% from 11.37% in April. At the same time, the labor force participation rate ticked lower to 59.50% from 59.52% in the previous month, the lowest since June 2025.
