Taiwan Jobless Rate Lowest Since 2000

Taiwan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 3.32% in May 2026 from 3.34% in the previous month, marking the lowest reading since November 2000.

The total number of unemployed persons decreased by 4 thousand month-on-month to 393 thousand, while employment rose by 2 thousand to 11.634 million.

The youth unemployment rate among those aged 15-24 eased to 11.14% from 11.37% in April.

At the same time, the labor force participation rate ticked lower to 59.50% from 59.52% in the previous month, the lowest since June 2025.

Taiwan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 3.34% in April 2026 from 3.35% in the previous month. The total number of unemployed persons increased by 5 thousand month-on-month to 397 thousand, while total employment decreased by 6 thousand to 11.632 million. The youth unemployment rate, among those aged 15–24, fell to 11.37% from 11.42% in March. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate eased to 59.52% in April 2026 from 59.57% in the previous month, marking the lowest level since September 2025.

Taiwan Jobless Rate Edges Higher in March
Taiwan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.35% in March from 3.33% in February. The total number of unemployed increased by 2,000 month-over-month to 402,000, while total employment decreased by 6,000 to 11.638 million.  Youth unemployment remained a key pressure point, with the jobless rate among workers aged 15-24 increasing to 11.42% from 11.34% in February, underscoring continued challenges for younger entrants to the workforce. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate edged down to 59.57% from 59.59% in February.
