Nicaragua foreign trade got a boost after the signing of the trade agreement with the United States in 2006. As a result, Nicaragua's main trade partner is now the United States (53 percent of total exports and 27 percent of total imports). Others include Mexico (13 percent of exports and 9 percent of imports) and Honduras (7 percent of exports and 9 percent of imports). Nicaragua exports mostly clothes, tobacco, spices and coffee. Major imports are oil, wheat, grains and intermediate goods.
