Nicaragua’s GDP expanded by 4.3 percent in the second quarter of 2017, compared to 6.6 percent in the previous month and to 7.4 percent in the same quarter of last year. Slower growth was observed for: agriculture (10.0 percent vs 6.5 percent in Q1); manufacturing (7.3 percent vs 4.4 percent); construction (14.6 percent vs 5.1 percent); commerce (3.8 percent vs 3.0 percent); financial services (7.4 percent vs 8.3 percent); government services (6.9 percent vs 9.3 percent); real estate (0.9 percent vs 1.7 percent); and health (2.7 percent vs 4.0 percent). Meanwhile, economic activity swung to contraction for: mining (-0.9 percent vs.+ 1.3 percent) and transport & communications (-0.5 percent vs 1.8 percent). In contrast, electricity output rebounded by 6.5 percent (vs -2.2 percent) and hotels & restaurants grew further (8.7 percent vs 6.8 percent).
