Italian Unemployment Rate Holds at 17-Year Low

The unemployment rate in Italy was 6.1% in September of 2024, remaining unchanged from the downwardly revised, 17-year low from the previous month and below market expectations of 6.2% to extend the period of tightness in the Italian labor market.
The number of unemployed individuals fell by 14,000 to 1,552,000, also the lowest in 17 years, offsetting the 63,000 drop in net employment to 23,983,000.
Consequently, the labor force participation rate fell to 66.3%, the lowest in 19 months.
