FTSE MIB Moves Higher

The FTSE MIB rose to around 52,800 on Tuesday, bouncing off a three-week low, as tech stocks stabilized helping improve risk sentiment.

Investors awaited Nvidia’s earnings later this week for clues on the durability of the AI-driven rally, while monitoring US-Iran tensions.

Prysmian led gains, advancing more than 3%, while STMicroelectronics gained nearly 1%.

Other notable gainers included Tenaris (+2.7%), Saipem (+1.7%), and Lottomatica (+1.3%).

Financial stocks also advanced amid developments in Italy’s banking consolidation.

Intesa Sanpaolo rose 1.0% ahead of a shareholder vote on its capital increase to fund the MPS bid, while MPS gained 0.6% as Banco BPM’s board considered its takeover offer.

Banco BPM rose 0.8%, although the board was reportedly unlikely to decide Tuesday and could continue talks with MPS.

Generali added 0.5% ahead of a Thursday board meeting to assess MPS’s offer for Banca Generali, while Mediobanca gained 0.8%.

The FTSE MIB Index Closes 0.53% Lower
The FTSE MIB Index dropped 276 points or 0.53 percent on Tuesday to close at 52096 points. Losses were led by Poste Italiane (-4.39%), Finecobank (-3.69%) and Telecom Italia (-3.63%). Offsetting the fall, top gainers were STMicroelectronics (4.47%), Prysmian (2.72%) and Davide Campari-Milano (1.95%).

FTSE MIB Edges Lower
The FTSE MIB edged down 0.5% to 52,096 on Tuesday, weighed down by heavyweight financials. The banking sector underperformed following a petition signed by major European banks, including Italy’s banking lobby ABI, opposing the EU’s proposal to address the concentration of sovereign exposures among banks. The ABI stated that the measure could negatively affect the public debt market, which is already under pressure from a global sell-off. Banco BPM, Unipol, Mediobanca, Banca Mediolanum, BPER and MPS all fell more than 1%. Poste Italiane fell 4%, leading losses on the index, following its bid for all ordinary shares of Telecom Italia (-3.3%). Utilities also underperformed as European gas prices remained elevated. Meanwhile, tech stocks STMicroelectronics (4.4%) and Prysmian (2.5%) extended gains from the previous session, although Technoprobe fell 0.6% following its positive debut on the index the previous day.

FTSE MIB Declines on Tuesday
The FTSE MIB fell to around 52,100 on Tuesday, giving back gains from the previous session, as oil prices rose after four sessions of declines while markets monitored diplomatic developments in the Middle East. President Donald Trump is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly later today and has not ruled out a meeting with Iran’s president. Among individual stocks, Buzzi Unicem led the declines, falling around 2.7% after UBS downgraded the stock to sell on concerns over the US market. Financials also weighed on the index as UniCredit (-0.8%), Intesa Sanpaolo (-0.5%), Assicurazioni Generali (-1.2%), Banco BPM (-0.5%), BPER Banca (-0.8%), and Unipol (-1.5%) all declined. Industrials weakened as well, with Leonardo down 1.1% and Stellantis 1.2%. On the flipside, technology stocks were firmer, led by STMicroelectronics, up 1.3%, while Prysmian gained 0.4%. Oil major Eni also rose 0.7%.
