FTSE MIB Nears Record High as Eni Drives Gains

The FTSE MIB gained 0.5% to 47,426 on Thursday, nearing record levels amid the release of multiple earnings reports. Eni rose 2.5% after posting a 35% year-on-year jump in adjusted Q4 earnings, driven by strong exploration and production and improved refining margins. Stellantis climbed 4.2% despite a negative 2025 result, as it raised revenue growth projections. Prysmian edged up 0.1% on record EBITDA, though concerns linger over valuation. In contrast, Leonardo fell 0.9% despite strong Q4 results, as investors reacted to ongoing US-Iran talks viewed as critical to avoiding conflict.

The FTSE MIB Index gained 256 points or 0.54 percent on Thursday to close at 47426 points. Gains were led by Nexi (4.52%), Stellantis N.V. (4.24%) and Amplifon (2.97%). Biggest losers were Telecom Italia (-4.33%), Buzzi Unicem (-1.87%) and Poste Italiane (-1.76%).

The FTSE MIB was little changed above 47,000 in early trading on Thursday, hovering near record levels and broadly mirroring moves across its European peers. Investors remained focused on a fresh wave of corporate earnings and reports, with Eni rising more than 1% after posting a 35% year-on-year increase in adjusted Q4 earnings, supported by strong exploration and production performance and improved refining margins. Other notable gainers included Enel and STMicroelectronics, both up over 1%, while defence stock Leonardo added more than 1% as investors awaited US-Iran nuclear talks later in the day. On the downside, laggards included Generali (-1%), Ferrari (-0.8%), Unipol Gruppo (-1%), and Saipem (-2.5%). On the data front, Italy’s business and consumer confidence figures for February are due later today.
