The FTSE MIB dropped 0.8% to around 45,400 in early trading on Friday, extending a 1.8% decline from the previous session and tracking broader European markets.
The index was weighed down by auto stocks, led by Stellantis, which tumbled more than 19% after announcing a €22 billion charge to restructure its business and accelerate its electric and hybrid vehicle rollout.
Peer Ferrari also fell over 2%.
Other notable laggards included tech firm STMicroelectronics (-2.3%), as investors remained cautious on software and AI-driven names, while Banco BPM and Moncler dropped more than 2%.
On the upside, Eni rose 1%, reflecting a rebound in oil prices, and some financials advanced, including Bper Banca (+1.3%), FinecoBank (+1.5%), and Unipol Gruppo (+2%).
For the week, the benchmark index is set for a muted performance.
