The FTSE MIB climbed 0.5% to around 46,600 on Wednesday, marking its fourth consecutive session of gains and hitting a record high, driven by heavyweight financials.
Leading the advance were Mediobanca and Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, up more than 5% and 3%, respectively.
Peers Unicredit (+0.7%), Intesa Sanpaolo (+0.6%), and Bper Banca (+1.1%) also advanced.
Among other notable performers, energy stock Eni rose 1.3% on higher oil prices, while Stellantis and Infrastrutture Wire each gained 1%.
On the data front, a fresh PMI survey showed Italy’s private sector growth regaining momentum in January, with the services sector expanding more than expected.
Market focus now shifts to January inflation data and other key European and global indicators, including the Eurozone flash CPI and the US ADP jobs report.
