The FTSE MIB fell 1.1% to close at 44,714 in early trading on Tuesday, extending losses to hit a three-week low as investors stayed cautious amid rising tensions between the US and the EU.
Market participants are closely watching for the EU’s response to President Donald Trump’s latest tariff threat over Greenland issue, which is set to be discussed at an emergency summit in Brussels on Thursday.
Attention also remains on developments from the World Economic Forum in Davos for any signals.
Selling pressure was broad-based, with notable declines seen in Telecom Italia (-2.9%), Buzzi (-2.8%), Brunello Cucinelli (-2.8%), and Bper Banca (-2.6%).
