The FTSE MIB hovered around 44,500 in early trading on Friday, holding a five-week high and poised for a fourth consecutive weekly gain.
Market sentiment was supported by hopes for additional Federal Reserve rate cuts next year and diminishing expectations of ECB rate hikes in 2026.
Leading the gains were industrial stock Buzzi Unicem, up more than 2%, and media share Telecom Italia, also rising over 2%.
Index-heavy finance shares were mostly in the green.
On the downside, top laggards included Tenaris and Davide Campari-Milano, both down more than 1%.
On the economic front, Italy’s consumer confidence for December came in better than expected, while business confidence fell more than forecasts.
Additional data later in the day will include the current account and industrial sales for October.
