The FTSE MIB rose 0.4% to around 43,350 in early trading on Friday, hitting its highest level in three weeks and outperforming most of its European peers.
The index is also heading for a second consecutive weekly gain, finishing a busy week of central bank announcements, US-China trade updates, and a wave of corporate and economic reports.
It is also on track for its fourth monthly advance.
Heavyweight financial stocks propelled the FTSE MIB higher, led by Intesa Sanpaolo (+1.1%), which climbed to its highest level in nearly two decades.
Its peers Bper Banca and Azimut Holding also grew 1.3% and 1.8%, respectively.
Other notable gainers included Interpump Group (+5.2%), Prysmian (+2.8%), Stellantis (+1.4%), and Amplifon (+1.5%).
Market attention is now turning to today’s Eurozone inflation data, which could provide key guidance for the ECB’s upcoming policy decisions.
