Italy’s retail sales increased 1.6% year-on-year in February 2026, easing from an upwardly revised 2.5% rise in January.

Growth was driven by large-scale distribution, up 1.9%, while small retailers gained 0.5% and non-store sales rose 1.2%, with online sales surging 8.3%.

In the non-food category, most segments recorded annual increases, except for shoes, leather goods, and travel items, which slipped 0.2%.

The strongest growth was seen in electric household appliances and audio-video equipment, up 5.6%.

On a monthly basis, retail sales were flat, missing expectations for a 0.4% increase.
