Italian 10-Year BTP Yield at Lowest Since October

Italy’s 10-year BTP yield edged down to 3.35%, its lowest level since October 22, as investors reacted to reports that Christine Lagarde may step down early as president of the European Central Bank.

The Financial Times reported that Lagarde is considering leaving before France’s 2027 presidential election, though no specific timing has been decided.

If she departs early, French President Emmanuel Macron, barred from seeking a third term, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz could play key roles in determining her successor.

European yields have also been pressured by US Treasury movements, following weaker-than-expected US inflation data and market concerns over potential AI-driven equity disruptions, which have supported demand for government bonds.
