The HCOB Italy Construction PMI edged down slightly to 50.9 in January 2025 from 51.2 in December 2024, but marking its second straight month of growth in the sector.
Residential construction drove activity growth, posting its fastest expansion in 32 months, while commercial building reversed gains and civil engineering saw its sharpest drop in 28 months.
Meanwhile, new orders rose for the second month, supported by contract wins, and employment extended a five-month growth streak with more full-time hires.
Moreover, purchasing activity expanded for the first time in nearly a year, but supply chain issues worsened vendor performance.
On prices, cost pressures persisted as suppliers raised prices, but input inflation eased from the previous month and remained below historical averages.
Looking ahead, firms remained cautiously optimistic about new contracts, though confidence lagged historical trends.
