Imports to Hong Kong rose 60% year-on-year to USD 739.1 billion in August 2026, accelerating from a 41% increase in July.
The latest figure marked the largest import growth since August 1968, driven largely by increased purchases in electrical machinery, apparatus, appliances, and electrical parts thereof (+64.5%), office machines and automatic data processing machines (+61.4%), and telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment (+50.4%).
By source, imports recorded the strongest growth among major suppliers from Korea (+265.8%), the United Kingdom (+111.6%), India (+107.7%), Malaysia (+78.7%), Vietnam (+67.2%) and the Mainland (+54.1%).
For the first eight months of 2026, imports grew 43.2% compared to the same period a year earlier.
