French Stocks Gain on Strong Corporate Results

The CAC 40 gained 0.3% to close at 8,510 on Friday as investors assessed another round of corporate earnings and business updates.

Engie surged 5.3% after reporting strong first-half results and raising its 2026 guidance.

Crédit Agricole gained 2.5% after beating second-quarter expectations, while Saint-Gobain jumped 7% as the company returned to double-digit sales growth in the second quarter and reaffirmed its 2026 outlook.

TotalEnergies added 0.8% as oil prices extended gains.

Luxury stocks were mixed as persistent Middle East tensions weighed on risk sentiment.

LVMH rose 0.4%, while L'Oréal fell 1.8% and Hermès lost 1.1%.

On the data front, France's annual inflation rate accelerated to 2.1% in July from 1.8% in June, reinforcing the case for a more cautious ECB easing cycle.

Meanwhile, producer prices fell 0.6% month-over-month in June after a revised 0.2% decline in May.

Meanwhile, Armani is open to involving multiple investors in the sale of a 15% stake earmarked in founder Giorgio Armani’s will. He named LVMH, L’Oréal (+0.8%) and EssilorLuxottica (+1.5%) as preferred buyers. Industrials closed mixed as US President Trump’s rejection of Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and halt hostilities triggered a rebound in oil prices, raising inflation concerns. Industrials closed mixed and financials posted losses. Elsewhere, Stellantis rose 0.4% after the US moved to ease fuel-economy requirements.

French Stocks Start the Week Higher
The CAC 40 rose 0.4% to 8,107 on Monday, extending gains from the previous week as investors brushed aside President Donald Trump's rejection of Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and halt hostilities. While Tehran signaled it would not soften its conditions for reopening the strategically important waterway, Iranian officials maintained that diplomacy remains the only viable path toward resolving the conflict. On the corporate front, TotalEnergies gained 0.7% after the company pledged to increase its dividend by more than 5% annually through 2030 and expanded its share buyback program, supported by higher oil and gas production and elevated energy prices. Other notable gainers included L'Oréal (+1.8%), Hermès (1.9%), EssilorLuxottica (2.7%), and Sanofi (1.1%).
