The CAC 40 Index Opens 0.37% Higher

The CAC 40 gained ground, rising 0.6% to around 8,190 on Tuesday, in line with most European peers, buoyed by tech stocks amid increased optimism about AI. Moreover, oil prices resumed their slide on reports that Iran might reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the US lifts its blockade of its ports. Markets are focused on Thursday’s Trump-Xi meeting, while Trump’s UN address later today is expected to offer some diplomatic impetus.. Arcelormittal(+2.6%) led gains among stocks, followed by Capgmeni (+2%) and Stmicroelectronics (+1.7%). Other top performers included Kering, Bureau Veritas, Legrand, Accor and Saint Gobain, rising between 1.5% and 1.8%. BNP Paribas and Credit Agricole advanced more than 1% each. On the downside, Orange and TotalEnergies posted the biggest declines, down 1.7% and 1.6%, respectively.

The CAC 40 traded flat around 8,139 on Tuesday, following gains in the previous session as investors focused on a busy diplomatic agenda. US President Donald Trump is set to address the United Nations General Assembly later today, while signaling openness to a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Elsewhere, investors are also looking ahead to the September 23–25 visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to the US, with his summit with Trump expected to cover AI, trade, export controls and rare-earth supplies. Among individual stocks, L’Oréal gained 0.5%, while TotalEnergies, Air Liquide and ENGIE rose 1.0%, 1.1% and 1.1%, respectively. STMicroelectronics also climbed 1.2%, tracking overnight gains in US technology stocks amid optimism over Meta Platforms’ latest AI agent. Banking stocks lagged, with BNP Paribas down 0.8%, Crédit Agricole falling 0.7% and Société Générale losing 1.2%.

The CAC 40 Index is up by 0.3 points or 0.00 percent on Tuesday. Top gainers are Bureau Veritas (1.66%), STMicroelectronics (1.57%) and ENGIE (1.33%). Biggest losses came from AXA (-1.63%), Renault (-1.33%) and Societe Generale (-1.10%).
