The CAC 40 fell 0.4% to 8,086 on Monday, extending losses from the previous week as uncertainties surrounding US–Iran diplomacy and renewed tariff threats from US President Donald Trump weighed on investor sentiment.
President Trump said Washington would assist certain vessels in leaving the Strait of Hormuz starting Monday, while also describing ongoing negotiations with Iranian representatives as “very positive.” However, the lack of concrete details kept investors cautious.
Trade tensions added to the subdued tone after Trump signaled plans to raise tariffs on European car imports.
The EU is seeking renewed talks with Washington but has warned it stands ready to respond if the proposed 25% tariffs on cars and trucks are implemented.
Notable declines were recorded in Danone (-3.2%), TotalEnergies (-0.8%), and Air Liquide (-1%).
In contrast, STMicroelectronics (4.2%) and Dassault Systèmes (1.6%) were among the session’s top gainers.
