CAC 40 Edges Lower to Start the Week

The CAC 40 edged down 0.2% to close at 8,130 on Monday, extending last week’s pullback as trade and geopolitical uncertainty continued to weigh on risk appetite.

Although President Trump has stepped back from earlier tariff threats linked to Greenland, his warning that Canada could face 100% tariffs if it pursued a trade deal with China has kept investors cautious about the broader risk of tariffs becoming a recurring tool in global trade.

Losses were led by consumer and industrial names, with Danone down 2.3% following the recall of specific infant formula batches, while Airbus (-2.1%), EssilorLuxottica (-2.9%) and STMicroelectronics (-2.6%) also weighed on the index.

These declines were partly offset by gains in energy and financials, as TotalEnergies rose 1.6% after securing an extension of its Waha oil and gas concession in Libya through 2050, and major banks such as Société Générale (2.3%), Crédit Agricole (1.5%) and BNP Paribas (0.5%) posted solid advances.
