The CAC 40 slipped 0.5% to around 8,120 on the final trading day of 2025, retreating from the previous session’s gains as investors adopted a cautious stance ahead of the New Year holiday.
Energy stocks led the losses, with TotalEnergies down 1.6% and ENGIE slipping 0.1%.
Luxury names also edged lower, including LVMH (-0.3%), L’Oréal (-0.4%), and Kering (-0.5%).
Banking shares followed suit, with Société Générale down 0.9%, Crédit Agricole -0.3%, and BNP Paribas -0.4%.
Despite the year-end pullback, the index recorded an approximate 10% gain for 2025.
The strong performance reflected a stable macroeconomic backdrop: Europe maintained steady growth, corporate earnings broadly improved, inflation remained in check, and a moderate interest-rate environment eased monetary pressures.
Supportive policies and solid results from leading companies further bolstered the index throughout the year.
