Household consumption in France edged up by 0.1% month-on-month in August 2025, missing market expectations of a 0.3% increase, but rebounding from a 0.3% fall in the previous month.
The modest recovery was mainly supported by higher spending of manufactured goods (0.3% vs -0.3% in July), led by a sharp rebound in clothing and textiles, while spending on durable and other goods remained stable.
Additionally, food consumption (0% vs -0.3%) turned stable, while energy use declined to a lesser extent (-0.1% vs -1.7%), despite concerns over expenditure on gas and electricity or on petroleum products.
On an annual basis, household spending dropped by 0.8% in August 2025.
