France’s 10-year OAT yield remained largely unchanged at 3.3%, holding near its lowest level since August 7, as investors weighed reports that Christine Lagarde might step down early as president of the European Central Bank.
According to the Financial Times, Lagarde is considering leaving before France’s 2027 presidential election, though no timetable has been set.
If she departs early, French President Emmanuel Macron, barred from seeking a third term, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz could become key players in choosing her successor.
European yields have also been weighed down by US Treasury moves, following weaker-than-expected US inflation data and concerns about potential AI-related disruptions in equities, which have boosted demand for government bonds.
