France’s manufacturing climate indicator was down to 96 in June 2025, slightly below May’s figure and market forecasts of 97, moving further away from its long-term average.
This marked the lowest reading since January, mainly due to a continued decline in overall order books (-24 vs -23 in May) and foreign order books (-17 vs -16), as well as a sharp increase in finished-good inventories (15 vs 9).
At the same time, manufacturers remained pessimistic about general production prospects (at -13) and expected workforce size (at -2).
Personal production prospects also turned slightly negative (-1 vs 0).
Across subsectors, business sentiment deteriorated in machinery and equipment goods and in other manufacturing.
However, it improved in food products and beverages, and remained stable in transport equipment.
