France’s manufacturing climate indicator edged down to 96 in March 2025 from 97 in February, missing market expectations and inching further below its long-term average of 100.
The slight decline was driven by increased pessimism about overall order books (-26 vs. -24) and foreign orders (-22 vs. -17), while manufacturers were also less optimistic about future selling price trends (5 vs. 6).
In contrast, sentiment improved regarding anticipated workforce changes (-3 vs. -4), general production outlook (-12 vs. -15), and personal production prospects (7 vs. 6).
Meanwhile, the economic uncertainty gauge fell to 25 from 29 in February.
Among manufacturing sectors, confidence particularly weakened in food products and beverages, with the index dropping to its lowest level since July 2024.
