Oil Falls on Mideast Diplomatic Push

Crude oil prices fell below $102 per barrel on Monday, pulling back from multi-week highs as investors weighed reports of ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the Middle East conflict against fears of renewed US military action against Iran.

Qatari and Iranian officials continued their discussions for a third consecutive day, seeking an agreement to end the US-Israel war on Iran ahead of this week’s US midterm elections.

Iran has repeatedly warned that any new attacks would prompt retaliatory strikes against US and Israeli targets in neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump stated that the US would refrain from launching fresh attacks on Iran before the elections, noting that negotiations with Tehran were progressing, although he has not ruled out further military action afterward.

Separately, OPEC+ agreed over the weekend to maintain its existing production targets through December as the group continues to evaluate global oil supply and demand conditions.

Crude Oil Extends October Rally to 15%
Crude oil climbed toward $104 a barrel on Friday, the highest since a four-month high of $105.83 hit on September 15, as escalating geopolitical tensions raised concerns about potential supply disruptions. The rally followed reports that a senior US military commander had briefed President Donald Trump on options for renewed strikes against Iran, while Trump has repeatedly threatened further military action. Tehran, meanwhile, signalled that it would not soften its position on ending the conflict, despite confirming receipt of a letter from US Vice President JD Vance aimed at reviving peace negotiations. Tensions around the Strait of Hormuz also intensified after two separate tanker incidents. Elsewhere, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck a Russian refinery in the Samara region, while Moscow launched another overnight attack against Ukraine. The developments have reinforced concerns over global oil supply security, with Crude oil gaining 15% in October.
