Baltic Dry Index Falls Further on Tuesday

The Baltic Dry Index fell 1.2% to 2,664 on Tuesday, reaching its lowest level since July 2. The Capesize Index, which typically tracks vessels transporting 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, declined 1.4% to 4,140, its lowest level since July 22. The Panamax Index, which generally measures vessels carrying 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell 0.6% to 1,988, reaching its lowest level since late April. The Supramax Index declined 1.3% to 1,648, its lowest level since June 12.

The Baltic Dry Index declined 1.7% to 2,696 on Monday, ending a three-session winning streak. The Capesize Index, which tracks vessels typically carrying around 150,000 tonnes of bulk commodities such as iron ore and coal, fell 2% to 4,200, its lowest reading since July 23. The Panamax Index, covering ships that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes of coal or grain, dropped 1.2% to 1,999, marking its weakest level in eight weeks. Among smaller vessel segments, the Supramax Index decreased 1.4% to 1,670.

The Baltic dry index increased 0.7% to 2,743 on Friday, its highest level since July 17. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes, including iron ore and coal, rose 2.1% to 4,285, its highest level since July 16. On the other hand, the panamax index, which usually carries 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, fell 2% to 2,024, its lowest level in nearly three months. Also, the supramax index decreased 0.5% to 1,694, its lowest since July 9. For the week, the Baltic index fell 0.3%.
