The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, retreated for the seventh consecutive session on Monday, dropping about 2.2% to the lowest since May 5 at 2,916 points, pressured by the larger vessel segments.
The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slipped 3.6% to 4,719 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, decreased 18 points to 2,218 points.
On the other hand, the supramax index rose 8 points to 1,596 points.
