Baltic Dry Index Falls for 5th Session

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors spot rates for vessels carrying dry bulk commodities, fell by 2.8% from the previous session to 3,037.

It was the fifth consecutive session of decline since the index touched an over two-and-a-half-year high of 3,227.

The index tracking rates for capsize vessels, commonly used for iron or and coal, slumped 4.1% to 5,040, tracking similar moves for iron ore.

In turn, the panamax index fell by 36 points to 2,254, while the supramax index inched up by one point to 1,584.

Baltic Dry Index Falls for 4th Day
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, was down for a fourth consecutive session on Wednesday, dropping by 2.5% to a one-week low of 3,124 points. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, slumped by 3.8% to 5,253 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, shed 31 points at 2,290 points. Meanwhile, the supramx index increased 6 points to 1,583 points.

Baltic Dry Index at Near 1-Week Low
The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which monitors rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, eased for a third consecutive session on Tuesday, falling about 0.5% to a near one-week low of 3,205 points, pressured by the larger vessel segments. The capesize index, which typically transports 150,000-ton cargoes including iron ore and coal, decreased by 0.7% to 5,459 points; and the panamax index, which tracks vessels carrying around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, shed 23 points at 2,321 points. Conversely, the supramax index rose 7 points to 1,577 points.
