The ASX 200 finished little changed at 9,011 on Monday, as gains in non-energy minerals, energy names, and logistics offset declines in tech, commercial services, and healthcare.
Early strength faded after U.S.
stock futures slumped on renewed Middle East tensions, with tit-for-tat strikes between Washington and Tehran targeting vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and other areas over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Wall Street was shut Monday for a holiday.
Locally, job ads rose for a second month in August, boosted by seasonal hiring ahead of Christmas.
In main trading partner China, key data releases loom this week, including August CPI, PPI, and trade figures.
Energy stocks outperformed, with Woodside up 1.6% and Santos 1.7%.
Ingenia Communities surged nearly 15% after rejecting a takeover bid from Warburg Pincus that valued the developer at a 30% premium.
Tech lagged, led by Xero (-3.9%) and Wisetech (-3.8%), while two of the big four banks were subdued.
