The S&P Global Australia Manufacturing PMI climbed to 53 in August 2025 from 51.3 in July, marking its fastest expansion since September 2022 and remaining above the 50 threshold for an eighth straight month, final data showed.
Output rose at a solid pace on stronger new orders, while export demand returned to growth for the first time since May, though only slightly.
To meet higher workloads, manufacturers boosted hiring across full- and part-time roles and stepped up purchasing activity, leading to higher inventories.
Business confidence surged to its highest since February 2022, supported by expectations of new product launches, stronger promotion, and improving economic conditions.
Price pressures, meanwhile, stayed historically subdued.
