The S&P Global Flash Australia Manufacturing PMI climbed to 52.1 in March 2025 from 50.4 in February, final reading showed.
It marked the highest level since October 2022, fueled by the strongest growth in production and new orders in over two years, driven by improved domestic economic conditions, marketing efforts, and client restocking.
However, export orders declined amid weak external demand.
Increased business activity spurred a surge in hiring, with job creation reaching a two-year high as firms replenished previously shed positions.
Post-production inventory rose for the first time since May, partly due to shipment delays caused by Cyclone Alfred.
Purchasing activity also rebounded, reflecting manufacturers’ optimism about future sales despite concerns over U.S.
tariffs.
While input costs remained elevated due to higher raw material and transport expenses, firms moderated selling price increases to remain competitive in a tightening market.
