Australia's job vacancies increased by 2.7% in the three months to February 2026, following a revised 0.5% gain in the previous quarter.

The growth was led by increases in the construction industry, as well as in customer-facing jobs such as retail trade and accommodation and food services.

Job vacancies in the private sector rose 3.2%, while those in the public sector fell by 0.7%.

Over the year, however, growth in job vacancies in the public sector remained higher at 4.7%, compared with 3.6% in the private sector.

“There were 337,900 job vacancies in February 2026, the highest level since November 2024,” Sean Crick, ABS head of labour statistics, said.
