ANZ-Indeed Australian Job Ads declined by 1.2% month-over-month in May 2025, marking the second straight month of drop and quickening from a downwardly revised 0.3% fall in the previous month.
"Although Job Ads series has remained in a tight range of 114–117 over the last year, the May result is in the bottom of that range and marks the lowest level of job ads since March 2021," ANZ Economist, Aaron Luk said.
He added the labor market remains tight, with robust employment growth and a low unemployment rate.
Meanwhile, Queensland has been the biggest drag on job creation this year, offsetting gains seen in other parts of Australia, according to Indeed senior economist Callam Pickering.
The report also highlighted steady increases in job postings within education and software development throughout May.
Year-on-year, job ads were down 5.7% but remained 13.66% above pre-pandemic levels.
