Australia Building Permits Confirmed to Fall 6.4%

The seasonally adjusted number of total dwellings approved in Australia dropped 6.4% month-on-month to 15,832 units in October 2025, reversing an 11.1% jump in September.
The latest reading matched preliminary estimates, with approvals for private-sector dwellings excluding houses slumping 13.1%, following a 25.0% surge in the previous month, while private-sector house approvals declined 2.1% after a 3.2% increase.
By state, approvals decreased in Victoria (-24.7%), New South Wales (-20.6%), and Tasmania (-15.0%), while Western Australia (28.1%), South Australia (11.2%), and Queensland (2.4%) recorded increases.
On a yearly basis, total dwelling approvals fell 1.8%, after a 14.9% jump in the previous month.
