Turkey Industrial Output Falls Again in July

Industrial production in Turkey fell 0.3% year-on-year in July 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 1.3% drop in June, but marking the third consecutive month of decline.

Output fell further in mining and quarrying, by 3.8% following a 1.4% decline in June, while electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply decreased 5.6% after rising 1.1% previously.

Offsetting these declines, manufacturing activity rebounded 0.3% (vs. -1.4%), as output recovered for the manufacture of tobacco products (1.1% vs. -2.8%), leather and related products (0.2% vs. -3.1%), computer, electronic and optical products (4.4% vs. -5.6%), and machinery and equipment (0.8% vs. -7.6%).

Output growth also picked up for textiles (4.5% vs. 1.3%) and other non-metallic mineral products (4.0% vs. 1.8%).

On a monthly basis, industrial production dropped 1%, following an upwardly revised 0.2% gain in June.

It was also the steepest drop since January, as manufacturing output fell for the first time in three months (-1.5% vs 0.2%), weighed down by weaker production of tobacco products, wearing apparel, leather and related products, printing, and rubber and plastic products. Meanwhile, mining and quarrying activity continued to contract, although the pace of decline eased (-1.6% vs -5.5%). In contrast, electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply continued to expand, accelerating slightly to 1.1% from 1.0%. On a monthly basis, industrial production edged up 0.1%, reversing a revised 3.0% decline in May.

Industrial production in Turkey was unchanged year-on-year in May 2026, following a marginally revised 6.1% increase in the previous month, which marked the strongest annual growth since August 2025. Manufacturing output, the largest component, slowed sharply (0.3% vs 6.9% in April), weighed down by weaker production of tobacco products, wearing apparel, leather and related products, printing, and coke and refined petroleum products. Also, growth in electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply eased (1.0% vs 1.8%). Meanwhile, the decline in mining and quarrying activity deepened (-5.0% vs- 2.8%), weighing on overall industrial performance. On a monthly basis, industrial production fell 2.9%, reversing a marginally revised 3.8% gain in April, suggesting momentum softened after the previous month's strong rebound.
