Turkey Industrial Output Falls the Most in 7 Months

Turkey’s industrial production fell 1.9% year-on-year in August 2026, deepening from a marginally revised 0.2% decline in the previous month and marking the fourth consecutive month of contraction.

It was also the steepest annual drop since January, as manufacturing output fell 2.5%, reversing July's 0.3% increase.

The decline was driven by weaker output in beverages, tobacco products, wearing apparel, wood and wood products, printing, basic pharmaceuticals, and rubber and plastic products.

In contrast, mining and quarrying output rose for the first time in six months (1.7% vs -4.1% in July).

Electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply also rebounded, rising 1.3% following a 4.8% decline in the previous month.

On a monthly basis, industrial output fell 1.0%, following a marginally revised 0.9% decrease in July.

Industrial production in Turkey fell 0.3% year-on-year in July 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 1.3% drop in June, but marking the third consecutive month of decline. Output fell further in mining and quarrying, by 3.8% following a 1.4% decline in June, while electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply decreased 5.6% after rising 1.1% previously. Offsetting these declines, manufacturing activity rebounded 0.3% (vs. -1.4%), as output recovered for the manufacture of tobacco products (1.1% vs. -2.8%), leather and related products (0.2% vs. -3.1%), computer, electronic and optical products (4.4% vs. -5.6%), and machinery and equipment (0.8% vs. -7.6%). Output growth also picked up for textiles (4.5% vs. 1.3%) and other non-metallic mineral products (4.0% vs. 1.8%). On a monthly basis, industrial production dropped 1%, following an upwardly revised 0.2% gain in June.

Industrial production in Turkey dropped 1.4% year-on-year in June 2026, deepening from a revised 0.1% decline in May and marking the second consecutive month of contraction. It was also the steepest drop since January, as manufacturing output fell for the first time in three months (-1.5% vs 0.2%), weighed down by weaker production of tobacco products, wearing apparel, leather and related products, printing, and rubber and plastic products. Meanwhile, mining and quarrying activity continued to contract, although the pace of decline eased (-1.6% vs -5.5%). In contrast, electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply continued to expand, accelerating slightly to 1.1% from 1.0%. On a monthly basis, industrial production edged up 0.1%, reversing a revised 3.0% decline in May.
