Taiwan Exports Hit Record Peak

Exports from Taiwan surged 41% year-on-year to a record high of USD 82.4 billion in August 2026, accelerating from a 32.9% gain in the previous month, mainly supported by the AI-driven boom as demand for technology products remained robust.

Growth was mainly driven by strong demand for information, communication and audio-video products (41.8%), parts of electronic products (58%), base metals and articles of base metal (22.4%), machinery (15.2%), and mineral products (70.2%).

The US remained the largest export destination, accounting for 28.7% of total exports, with shipments rising 20.7%.

Exports also grew to Mainland China and Hong Kong (39.3%), ASEAN countries (42.2%), Europe (34.8%), South Korea (44.6%), and Japan (32%).

For the first eight months of the year, total exports reached USD 574.3 billion, 44.2% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Exports from Taiwan surged 32.9% year-on-year to USD 75.3 billion in July 2026, easing from a 40.3% jump in June and missing market expectations of a 40.7% increase. Growth was driven by strong demand for electronic products, with shipments rising 50.5%, while exports of information and communication products increased 29.5%. The US remained the largest export destination, accounting for 31% of total shipments, with exports rising 25.2%, followed by Mainland China and Hong Kong, where shipments increased 33.4%. Exports continued to benefit from robust demand for AI and high-performance computing applications, supporting shipments across Taiwan's semiconductor and AI hardware supply chains. The Ministry of Finance expects exports to grow 31%-35% year-on-year in August. In the first seven months of 2026, total exports reached USD 493.0 billion, up 44.7% from the same period a year earlier.

Taiwan Export Growth Misses Forecasts
Exports from Taiwan surged 40.3% year-on-year to USD 74.8 billion in June 2026, slowing from a 51.7% jump in May and falling short of market expectations for a 48.6% increase. Despite the moderation, export growth remained robust, underpinned by strong global demand for semiconductors and electronic products. Among major export categories, shipments of information, communication and audio-video products continued to lead gains (72.3%), followed by parts of electronic products (32.8%), machinery (14.8%), and mineral products (20.0%). By contrast, exports of base metals and related products declined (-1.3%). Exports to all major trading partners posted solid growth, with particularly strong increases to the US (34.8%), Mainland China and Hong Kong (22.2%), ASEAN economies (47.1%), Europe (48.4%), Japan (17.7%), and South Korea (31.8%). For the first half of 2026, Taiwan's total exports reached USD 416.7 billion, marking a 47.1% increase from the same period a year earlier.
